Software:

Evernote - Allows you to keep lists that are synced from your browser to your mobile device (and vice versa!)  I use this all day, every day!  Available for iPhone or Android, Mac and PC.

.docx compatibility pack.  This allows older versions (i.e. 2003) of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) to open the newer filetypes (.docx, .pptx, etc.).

Audacity – An awesome (and free!) audio recording and editing program.

Java – You should already have this–but if you don’t, you’ll have problems running a lot of “browser-embedded” programs (such as simulations found at phet.colorado.edu)
